You don't need a soundproofed room and a five-figure budget to start recording clean vocals and instruments.
The four things that actually matter, in order: a decent microphone, an audio interface, a quiet room, and monitoring you can trust. Everything else — the fancy preamps, the acoustic foam, the second monitor — comes after those four are sorted.
A Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 paired with an Audio-Technica AT2020 covers the first two for well under the cost of a mid-range phone, and it's the same starting combination used in bedroom studios worldwide. Don't overspend here before you've recorded anything — you'll know what to upgrade after your first few sessions, not before.
"Quiet room" doesn't mean soundproofed. It means picking the smallest room in the house, recording late at night if traffic noise is an issue, and hanging thick blankets or a duvet behind you to kill reflections. This costs nothing and fixes 80% of the "why does my recording sound boxy" problem.
